Q&A with Natalie K
To shed a little light on the subject of engagement ring purchases, we asked Linda Garrido of Natalie K jewelry company to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about selecting the perfect engagement ring.
I don’t think my girlfriend would like a traditional diamond ring. Can the ring have a gemstone instead of a diamond?
Absolutely! The engagement ring is very personal, and if she likes a certain gemstone (i.e. a sapphire like Princess Diana), it might be fun to go outside of the traditional box. Just be sure to pick a stone that is durable enough for everyday wear.
I have no idea what ring would be perfect for my girlfriend. Is it OK to go shopping together after I propose?
It’s OK to shop together afterward, but it will be more romantic if you surprised her with a diamond set in a Tiffany mounting, and choose a setting together at a later time. If by chance she prefers a different shape stone, it’s best that you purchase it from your local retailer store and not online, since it will accommodate and take care of your special situation.
If my girlfriend doesn’t like the ring I picked out for her, what are my options?
Discuss that possibility prior to purchasing the ring with the retailer, and, most likely, he or she will be receptive to you exchanging it for something your girlfriend would like.
